چکیده: واژه استراتژی از لغت یونانی استراتژیا گرفته شده است که در حدود 400 سال پیش از میلاد به کار می رفته و به هنر و علم هدایت نیروهای نظامی گفته می شده است. در تعریف استراتژی آمده است : استراتژی عبارت است از طرحها و برنامههای مدیریت برای کسب نتایج منطبق با رسالت و هدفهای سازمان در جای دیگر آمده است: استراتژی طرحی است جامع، واحد و کامل که برای رسیدن به هدف از برتریهای ویژه موسسه برای رویارویی با تغییرات عمده محیطی استفاده میکند.بروس هندرسون صاحبنظر برجسته و موسس گروه مشاوران بوستون، استراتژی را این گونه تعریف میکند: ایجاد یک مزیت منحصر به فرد برای تمایز سازمان از رقبا. و اساس کار را مدیریت این تمایز میداند.مسیری را كه سازمان در نظر دارد چارچوب فعالیتهای خود را در آن ایجاد كند تا به اهداف مورد نظر دست یابد استراتژی می گویند.استراتژی نوعی رویكرد سازگار (منعطف) در طول زمان است كه نگرش سازمانی را در دستیابی به اهدافش مشخص می سازد. مقصود از استراتژی عبارت است از نگهداری و حفظ موقعیت مزیتی سازمان از طریق سرمایه گذاری در نقاط قوت و به حداقل رساندن نقاط ضعف یك سازمان. برای انجام این امر یك سازمان باید فرصتها و تهدیدهایی را كه از محیط های داخلی و خارجی ناشی می شود را شناسایی كند.
